The judges were setting traps for Joan like crazy, but she hadn't fallen for them, yet. They asked about her voices, meaning to set a trap for her in some way.
"Did you see angels?" the head judge asked. "I did." came the reply.
"Who were the angels?" She answered, "St. Margaret and St. Catherine."
"Did they wear any jewelry?" This question was so irreverent and preposterous to Joan that she didn't answer.
"How did you know who they were?" They asked, and she answered, "Because they told me."
"Why did you wear male attire in battle and did your voices say to do it?" "Yes," she answered, "I wore the armor because they told me to and I knew it must be right."
Finally the judges gave up.
